Overview
Reset a user's two-factor authentication (2FA) settings to help them regain access to their account when they've lost their authentication device or need to reconfigure their security setup.
Use Case: Help users who have lost access to their 2FA device, changed devices, or need to reset their two-factor authentication configuration to secure their account again.
Who Should Use This: Administrators managing user accounts and security settings in Unity.
Prerequisites
- [ ] Admin role or higher permissions in Unity
- [ ] Access to the Admin section
- [ ] User account exists in the system
How to Reset Two-Factor Authentication for a User
Step 1: Navigate to Admin Section
Go to the Admin section to access advanced management tools.
Where to find it: Main navigation menu or dashboard in Unity
What you'll see: Admin section interface with user management options becomes available
Step 2: Click More Options Button
Click the more options button beside the user's name for additional actions.
Where to find it: Next to the user's name in the user list or user profile view
What you'll see: A dropdown menu or action menu appears with available user management options
Step 3: Choose Reset 2FA
Select Reset 2FA to refresh the user's two-factor authentication setup.
Where to find it: In the more options menu that appeared after clicking the more options button
What you'll see: A confirmation dialog or prompt appears asking you to confirm the reset action
Step 4: Confirm Reset 2FA
Click Reset 2FA to confirm and complete the reset process.
Where to find it: In the confirmation dialog that appeared after selecting Reset 2FA
What you'll see: A success message or confirmation indicating that the user's 2FA has been reset
Expected Result
After completing these steps, the user's two-factor authentication settings are reset, allowing them to set up 2FA again with a new device or reconfigure their authentication method. The user will need to complete the 2FA setup process on their next login.
You'll know it worked when: You see a confirmation message indicating the 2FA reset was successful, and the user can now set up two-factor authentication again during their next login attempt.
