Business Messaging Terminology

Cytracom Business Messaging provides a vast array of features and functionality which are best explained by these definitions:

  • Business Messaging - Cytracom's unique merger of team messaging and business communication via SMS/MMS messages
  • Message - text optionally including file(s) which is sent to member(s) of the conversation
  • Conversation - exchange of messages between members
  • Member - individuals (that may or may not be a Cytracom user) that receive messages in a conversation
  • Room - a type of conversation regarding an ongoing topic where members may be added or removed by the owner; only colleagues with app access will be members of rooms
  • Owner - the member who created a Room and has administrative control to add or remove members
  • Direct Messages - a type of conversation for ad hoc topics between specific member(s)
  • Presence - a user's availability for messaging in a Cytracom app as indicated by a green halo around their avatar
  • BLF - acronym for "busy lamp field" which is a light on a multifunction key of an IP phone used to provide busy status for another extension. The colors are green for online, flashing red for incoming call, solid red for on a call.
  • SMS - Simple Messaging Service component of mobile telephone systems. It uses standardized communication protocols to enable mobile devices to exchange short text messages. Typical references to SMS normally implies both SMS/MMS.
  • MMS - Multimedia Messaging Service is a standard way to send messages that include multimedia content to and from a mobile phone over a cellular network.
